Hot Milk

The psychological drama Hot Milk, directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and based on Deborah Levy’s 2016 novel, premiered in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2025 and received a limited theatrical release starting June 27, 2025, in the U.S., followed by U.K. and Latin American rollouts in early July.

The story centers on Sofia (Emma Mackey) and her mother Rose (Fiona Shaw), who travel to sun‑drenched Almería in search of a cure for Rose’s mysterious paralytic illness.

As Sofia forms a complex bond with the enigmatic Ingrid (Vicky Krieps), family tensions simmer to a compelling climax under the scorching Spanish sun.

Critics note its moody, summer‑noir atmosphere and Emma Mackey’s powerful performance, even as some find the narrative’s ambiguity divisive.
